Lomov was already 35 and he wanted to lead a quiet and regular life. Moreover, he believed that after marriage he could enjoy a sound sleep. This was why he thought about taking a decision about getting married.
He wanted to marry Natalya Stepanovna, the daughter of Chubukov.
Lomov wanted to marry her because she was not a fashionable lady. She was an excellent housekeeper, good-looking and well-educated.
